Su Yan & Ray Claim Silver in WMOC Long Distance Event

Queensland orienteers, Su Yan Tay (UG) and Ray Kelly (UG), both won silver at the World Masters Orienteering Championships long distance event which was conducted in the Clandulla State Forest, north of Lithgow, last Saturday. They were amongst six Australian gold medal winners and nine other placegetters at the Championships.

Win for Su Yan Tay in World Masters Orienteering Championships

Ugly Gully orienteer, Su Yan Tay of Indooroopilly, has won the Women's 45 class in the Sprint event at the World Masters Orienteering Championships held at the Sydney Olympic Park today.

The Championships are being conducted in conjunction with the World Masters Games which started yesterday in Sydney. More than 28,000 athletes from 100 countries are taking part in the Games with orienteering being amongst 28 sports on offer. The Orienteering Championships have attracted over 1,100 competitors from 32 countries, in five year age groups from 35 through to 85.

International Flavour to Qld Champs

The Queensland Championships took on an international flavour this year with 18 orienteers from Great Britain, Canada and Sweden, en route to the World Masters Orienteering Championships, joining over 210 local and interstate orienteers for the two day event. The Championships were held close to Stanthorpe on Queensland's Granite Belt and fortunately the weather conditions remained fine and not too hot.

2009 MTBO Championships Success
