Coaching and Training Squads Orienteering Queensland has four Athlete Development squads to cater for Junior and Senior members who are interested in competitive orienteering. They are structured to cater for the needs of various ages, and receive financial support from Orienteering Queensland. Certain criteria and expectations of members are summarised below. ULTRA MINI CYCLONES (9-11 years) Brochure Entry Criteria: - Juniors aged 9-11 years may enter the program
- Family joins Orienteering Queensland
- Parents must be prepared to support the program by ensuring their child has suitable orienteering equipment
- Regular attendance at nominated events
Support: - Shirt & personalised training folder supplied
- Regular coaching days: basic briefing to establish good habits, orienteering practice and debriefing, and other training activities with an element of fun

- 13y Orange course unassisted
- 14y Orange course well, some red courses
- Family joins Orienteering Queensland
- Committed to technical improvement
- Regular attendance at events and Orienteering Queensland coaching sessions
Support: - Free 2-3 day training camp with one parent.
- Shirt supplied
- Some financial assistance for travel to Badge events
- Orienteering Queensland coaching days at no cost

JUNIOR CYCLONES (15-18 years) Entry Criteria: - Ready to compete at Red course level
- Orienteering Queensland membership
- Committed to regular physical and technical training
- Attendance at Badge and OY events where possible
- Attend annual junior camp at own cost
- Has a nominated coach or mentor
Support: - Shirt supplied at discounted price
- Orienteering Queensland Coaching days at no cost
- Financial assistance to selected representatives
- Orienteering Queensland subsidises annual junior camp

CYCLONES SQUAD (18-35 years) Entry Criteria: - Must qualify to run in National Junior and Senior Elite races or
- Be able to run Red 1 or Red 2 courses
- Orienteering Queensland Membership
- Competing regularly and attending squad training unless prohibited by work/study commitments or location
- Has regular contact with squad coach
Support: - Limited financial support for squad training
- Orienteering Queensland coaching days at subsidised cost (adults), free for juniors
- Financial support for those selected to represent Cyclones at NOL events

VETERANS TRAINING GROUP (35+) Entry criteria: - Any veteran who wishes to train for competition at State or national level
- Orienteering Queensland membership
